Teachers Helping Teachers
Many schools, children and teachers have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. A few teachers are donating lessons and packets from the Teachers Pay Teachers stores and Teachers Notebook store. Such a great idea. Keep these people in your prayers and donate items from your store if you have one. I am donating today.

Bottle Cap Literacy Memory Game
My kinders love playing all kinds of board games. I made a Bottle Cap Literacy Memory Game. It is played like traditional memory games. Students turn over bottle caps looking to match upper to lower case letters. Another version of the game is to match beginning sound picture game pieces to letter game pieces. Check out the game on my Teachers pay Teachers or Teachers Notebook store.
Many children come to school today with little experience playing board games. This game is great for students learning to take turns, conversation with others, and social interaction.
I posted a picture of the cover at the bottom of blog with a small picture on the side.

Grab and Go Center Activities
Do you kiddos always say "I'm Done"? I have come up with a way for my early finishers to work on an activity independently. I have a "I'm Done" basket full of Literacy and Math packets inside of a zipper pencil pouch. I got the pencil pouches at Dollar Store. I also got some dry erase markers at Dollar Store that have small erasers on the cap. I also purchased some mini clothes pins from the craft store. I laminate the cards and cut them apart. I put the Beginning sounds cards, or number counting cards inside with clothes pins and dry erase markers. My students choose an independent activity and clip the correct answer under each card. They love working on the floor with the pencil packets. I have included the Beginning Sounds, Counting Numbers, Ending Sounds and Rhymes on my Teacher pay Teacher and Teacher Notebook stores. Check the bottom of the blog for a picture of the Beginning Sounds pack.

Back to School
Today is our first day back to school since Christmas. We had a snow day on Tuesday. Icy roads canceled school. All my 22 kiddos were glad to be back. We started our Penguin unit. Our class read aloud today was If you could go to the Antarctica. I have also started a chapter book in the afternoon with my students. We began Mr. Popper's Penguins. The children enjoyed Chapter 1. We made connections to our class book about the Antarctica with Mr. Popper. We also made a chart listing r-controlled words from the book. My favorite today was making a father and baby penguin to go along with the poem, My Father's Feet. We used the penguin project and poem from First Grade Blue Skies TpT store. I will post a picture of our projects.
